Success Stories
Meet the young Kenyan innovators who turned their climate ideas into impact with the Youth Climate Innovation Challenge.
CarBIO
CarBIO equips Kenyan dairy farmers with biogas digesters that turn animal waste into clean cooking gas and bio-fertilizer, cutting methane emissions and reducing firewood use. Inspired by a solar mini-grid in Narok, they saw the potential of renewables to transform rural lives. They are piloting a farmer-informed digester prototype and a digital system to track carbon reductions, supported by the Yoma platform where they've gained tech skills.
Darubini ya Afya
Darubini ya Afya through the Eco Pure Hybrid Scrubber is tackling Africa's 'silent killer', air pollution, with a system that filters toxic incineration emissions while transforming waste into useful resources. Shaped by the realities of communities where respiratory illness is common, the innovation combines wet and dry scrubbing to trap pollutants, capture waste heat for energy, and recycle carbon.
Veeklture
Veeklture is tackling both problems with a simple, powerful innovation, locally made, reusable cloth diapers in Kibera and many other communities across Kenya. Washable and durable, each diaper can be used for up to three years per child, reducing household diaper costs by as much as 70%. Unlike disposables, they don't linger in the environment for centuries; instead, they help reduce plastic waste and promote cleaner, healthier communities.
Greenium Energy Limited
Greenium Energy Limited, a renewable energy company that transforms human and animal waste into clean cooking gas and nutrient-rich organic fertilizer. The mission is to accelerate the clean energy transition while improving health, protecting the environment, and creating jobs.
